Artist Statement, Shows & Awards
I am an entirely self-taught artist who has been making paintings and painted relief collages for over forty years, and have won a couple competitions and had a few solo shows. My style is improvisational. My work is complex and layered and reveals itself slowly in different ways over time. My pursuit is of a raw and rough art. But, just as in untamed nature, the raw and rough upon close observation are also delicate, soothing and healing.
I don’t make polished, perfect fine art. I construct arenas and conditions for colors and materials to display themselves - to present their properties freely and combine in unplanned and joyous ways. This is direct painting, and a direct expression from within me to within you.
